The No. 21 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team posted a 4-1 record in traditional games Saturday on the first day of the two-day Warhawk Classic at Rock River Lanes in Fort Atkinson, Wis.
The Warhawks are second at the tournament with a cumulative score of 4,581 (183.2 per game) entering Sunday's Baker games.
UW-W topped Aurora, Carroll, Illinois Wesleyan and Dominican, and was defeated against Carthage.
Caitlin Mertins (Racine, Wis./Park) and
Sam Knab (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) finished second and third, respectively, in the field of 44 players. Mertins scored a 978 over five traditional games for an average of 195.6, while Knab posted a 976 over five games for a 195.2 average.
Rachel Nelson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere North) placed 25th with a 713 series over four games, good for a 178.25 average.
Taylor Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) totaled a 537 over three games, good for 31st overall and a 179 average, and
Kelsey Jaeger (New London, Wis./Little Wolf) collected a 505 over three games for 34th place and a 168.33 average.
Taylor Purgett (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) bowled two games and rolled a 409 for a 204.5 average, and
Olivia Zinanni (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) registered a 315 over two games for a 157.5 average.
The tournament continues with Baker games Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
