The No. 21 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team started the 2021-22 season Friday with a pair of wins in Baker match play at McKendree's Hammer Bearcat Open at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Mich.
The Warhawks were defeated by Tusculum, No. 15 Maryville and No. 2 McKendree before topping Quincy and Carthage to wrap up the first day of competition.
Piper Miles (Inverness, Ill./Fremd),
Kelsey Jaeger (New London, Wis./Little Wolf),
Taylor Purgett (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield),
Caitlin Mertins (Racine, Wis./Park) and
Sam Knab (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) combined for the two victories.
UW-Whitewater is eighth in the 16-team field with a cumulative pin fall of 4,371 (174.8 per game).
Competition at the three-day tournament continues Saturday with five traditional matches.
