Men Third, Women Eighth at Midwest Elite Invite

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams participated in their final home meet of the 2020 indoor season Saturday as they competed against several of the nation's top teams in the Midwest Elite Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse.
 
The Warhawk men posted 91 points and placed third, while the women finished eighth with 26 points.
 
The men claimed three individual events, led by junior David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger), who topped a field of 37 runners in the 5,000-meter run with a 14:26.33, good for the No. 3 time in NCAA Division III.
 
Senior Alex Duff (Oregon, Wis./Oregon), who ranks among the top 10 in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles, crossed the finish line first in the event Saturday with a time of 8.23, qualifying for the final with an 8.20. Senior Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) improved his season-best height in the pole vault to 16-01.75 (4.92 meters), good for a top-five national mark.
 
Junior Daustin Martin (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) topped his personal record in the weight throw with a toss of 58-04.50 (17.79 meters), good for a top 15 national mark.
 
Junior Quinn Halversen (Rockford, Ill./Christian) matched his season best in the high jump with a 6-05.00 (1.96 meters), good for third. Junior Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case) placed third in the 60-meter dash with a 6.96, coming only two-hundredths of a second shy of his season best, which ranks among the top 15 in Division III. Junior Lucas Skaaland (Westby, Wis./Westby) finished third in the triple jump with a season-best 45-06.50 (13.88 meters).
 
On the women's side, junior Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) finished as runner-up in the long jump with a 17-09.50 (5.42 meters). She ranks among the top 15 in the nation in the event. Sophomore Kailey Reynolds (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) improved her personal best to 7.89 in the 60-meter dash, good for fourth place.
 
Other individual event scorers included junior Sydney Davidson (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland), who placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 10-11.75 (3.35 meters), and sophomore Sydney Rossow (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), who finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds, which ranks among the top 30 in the country.
 
The Warhawks visit North Central's Slick Invite Friday at 4 p.m. in Naperville, Ill.
