The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams were edged by UW-Eau Claire at Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Warhawk women were edged 157-141 and the men lost 185-107.
 
I thought that we had a great showing at our final home meet today," said head coach Elise Knoche, "We were excited about the prospect of facing off against UW-Eau Claire, because they are a very strong team. Our swimmers and divers stepped up to the challenge, and I am very proud of how we performed in the pool and on the boards today."
 
Senior Renata Schlomann (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) and junior Olivia Theobald (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) led the women's side with two individual freestyle wins apiece. Schlomann claimed the sprint events, swimming the 50-yard freestyle in 24.81 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 54.67 seconds. Theobald finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:57.67 and touched the wall in the 500-yard freestyle in a mark of 5:21.25.
 
Other event winners included seniors Meredith Gustafson (Brookfield, Wis./East) and Bailey Weston (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and freshman Madyson Gomez (Cary, Ill./Dundee Crown). Weston took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.87, Gomez finished the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.64 and Gustafson finished the 200-yard butterfly in a winning time of 2:15.59.
 
Schlomann, Stigler, Gustafson and Weston teamed up in the 400-yard medley relay, winning in a time of 4:07.41. The women also claimed the 200-yard freestyle relay with a team consisting of Schlomann, freshman Savana Bitz (Grey Eagle, Minn./Melrose Area), Theobald and Weston. They recorded a time of 1:41.46.
 
The men finished first in five individual events, starting with junior Jake Herlache's (West Bend, Wis./Grafton) win in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:49.79. Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) posted a 1:00.00 in the 100-yard breaststroke followed by Zach Noll's (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) 2:00.59 finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Tristan Whiting (Hayden, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy) touched the wall at the 4:57.93 mark and freshman Joe Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual Learning) wrapped up the individual events by posting a 4:19.91 in the 400-yard individual medley.
 
Knoche also said, "With less than 20 days to our conference championships, we know that the work we are putting in during practice and meets right now will pay off in a few weeks."
 
UW-Whitewater heads to UW-La Crosse for their last WIAC dual of the season on Saturday. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
