University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis senior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) competed in the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship in the singles draw Friday.

Kitchell, number 5 in the Central Region as of the last rankings, faced off against Christina Puccinelli of Middlebury (Vt.), ranked number 8 in the Northeast Region, in the round of 32. Kitchell dropped the first set 7-5 but battled back with 7-6 (3) and 6-2 sets to advance to the round of 16 with her 100th singles victory of her career.

She faced Pomona-Pitzer's Caroline Casper, ranked second in the West Region as of the last ITA rankings, in her second match on the day. Kitchell dropped the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to conclude her Warhawk career.

Kitchell concludes her career as a Warhawk with 100 singles victories and as a singles All-American for the 2018-2019 season. She competed in the NCAA Division III singles tournament three times in her career. She was a doubles All-American in 2016-2017 and was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in the fall, and helped the Warhawks continue their streak of 12 straight WIAC championships.
