Tennis Squads Fall to Ranked Foes

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis squads played their final games in the Fredericksburg, Va. leg of their spring trip Sunday, both against host Mary Washington.
 
The No. 36 women (8-5) fell to the 19th-ranked Mary Washington women (11-2) 8-1, while the men (8-4) were dropped by the No. 13 Mary Washington men (12-3) 9-0.
 
The women were swept in doubles, but did post a point in singles. Senior Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) was the lone Warhawk on the day to claim a match, winning 7-6 (7), 6-4 in the first slot.
 
The men were also swept in the doubles matches and fell in straight sets in singles.
 
The Warhawks tennis squads will travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C. to play the last two matches of their spring trip. The women play Carleton (Minn.) at 7:30 a.m. Central Time on Tuesday and DePauw (Ind.) on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., while the men play DePauw at 11 a.m. Central Time Wednesday and Oberlin (Ohio) on Thursday at 10 a.m.
