University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's cross country junior David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) earned All-America honors for the second straight season Saturday after placing sixth at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship, the highest finish at the national meet (NCAA Division III) by an individual runner in program history.

Saturday's race was run at the Tom Sawyer Course in Louisville, Ky.

Fassbender, the NCAA Midwest Regional runner-up, recorded a time of 24:32.7, the third-fastest 8-kilometer time at the NCAA Championship in program history. His sixth-place finish in the field of 279 runners was one spot higher than the previous program record by Jeremy Burks, who placed seventh at the national meet in 2000.

Fassbender was only six-tenths of a second from a top-five finish, and just under 20 seconds off the winning pace (24:13.9). His performance finished a season that saw Fassbender place among the top 10 in all six of his races, including victories at the Tom Hoffman Invitational (Sept. 14), the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic (Sept. 21) and the Blugold Invitational (Oct. 4), a third-place showing at the Connecticut College Invite (Oct. 19) and a fourth-place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship (Nov. 2).

As a sophomore, Fassbender placed 21st in the nation to become the program's second All-American in the last decade.

At least one Warhawk runner has qualified for the NCAA Championship in each of the last six years.
