The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued competition with a strong day Friday on the second day of the Saluki Invite in Carbondale, Ill.

For the men, freshman Joey Wenszell swam to a seventh-place finish with a time of 52.54. Junior
Zach Noll (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) and senior
Cody Heckendorf (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) qualified for the 400-yard individual medley A finals. Noll touched the wall in 4:08.74, good for fifth, while Heckendorf finished in eighth with a 4:19.86.

Jake Herlache (West Bend, Wis./Grafton) finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.33. Junior
Tyler Chatterton (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and sophomore
Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) represented the Warhawks in the 100-yard breaststroke. Chatterton finished with a time of 58.43 for a fourth-place finish while Popke swam to a seventh-place finish with a 59.99. Rounding out the individual men was sophomore
Zach Miller (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington). He finished the 100-yard backstroke in a 53.91, good for eighth place.

Herlache, Chatterton, Wenszell and senior
Nick Jelich (Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University HS) found a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:36.18. Jelich, Chatterton and Herlache joined sophomore
Tristan Whiting (Hayden, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy) in the 800-yard freestyle relay. They finished with a 7:10.16, good for third place.

The women were represented by seniors
Renata Schlomann (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) and
Meredith Gustafson (Brookfield, Wis./East) and freshmen
Leanne Stigler (Beloit, Wis./Muskego) and
Savana Bitz (Grey Eagle, Minn./Melrose Area) in the 200-yard medley relay. They finished in third with a time of 1:51.62.

In the 400-yard individual medley, Gustafson and fellow senior
Shayna Putney (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) went 6-7, finishing in times of 4:49.59 and 4:57.23, respectively. Senior
Bailey Weston (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and junior
Olivia Theobald (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) finished the 200-yard freestyle in times of 1:58.33 and 1:59.43, good for a seventh and eighth place finishes.

Stigler swam to a fifth-place finish with a 1:07.63 in the 100-yard breastroke. In the 100-yard backstroke, Schlomann finished in fourth with a time of 58.36 while freshman
Madyson Gomez (Cary, Ill./Dundee Crown) finished in eighth with a 1:01.16.

Putney, Bitz, Weston and Theobald came together to swim the 800-yard freestyle relay in an 8:06.64, finishing up competition with a third-place finish.

Competition resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m. for prelims on the final day of the invitational.
