Day 1 Results
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team completed play Friday on the first day of the two-day Warhawk Fall Invitational at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks won two of the three doubles draws competing against Division I Green Bay and NAIA opponents Cardinal Stritch, Roosevelt and St. Francis (Ill.).
Sophomore
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) and freshman
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) claimed the second draw, besting St. Francis, Cardinal Stritch and Green Bay on their way to the title. They topped Green Bay in a tiebreaker for an 8-7 (5) triumph in the final.
Sophomores
Elsie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) teamed up to win the third doubles flight, earning victories over Roosevelt and teammates
Katie Toomire (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) and
MacKenzie Lindow (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) for the championship.
Sophomore
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and freshman
Megan Setter (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) placed fourth in the first flight, and sophomores
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and
Madalyn Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) finished fourth at the No. 2 draw. Juniors
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) and
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) were defeated in the consolation final at No. 1.
One round of singles was played Friday. Rueth,
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and
Madalyn Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) will compete in semifinals in the No. 4 draw, and Lindow earned a spot in the final at No. 5.
Play continues Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
