The No. 10 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team opened its 2019-20 season Friday at the McKendree Bearcat Hammer Open at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.
 
The Warhawks finished 3-2 for the day in Baker games with a total pinfall of 4,709, or 188.4 per game, and are fourth at the 18-team tournament after one day.
 
UW-Whitewater defeated Upper Iowa, Kentucky Wesleyan and St. Francis Brooklyn before falling in consecutive games against Maryville and No. 2 McKendree.
 
Play continues at the Bearcat Hammer Open Saturday as the Warhawks will play five traditional games.
