The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams continued the 2018 season Friday at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
 
The Warhawk men placed fourth out of 27 teams, while the women finished 16th competing against the same number of teams.
 
Sophomore David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) posted his second straight top-two finish to lead the men, placing as runner-up in the 8-kilometer field of 330 runners. His time of 25:01.8 was only 10 seconds off the winning result and fewer than 15 seconds shy of his personal record mark.
 
Senior Jonah Nelson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) and sophomore Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) finished in a close pack. Nelson placed 23rd overall in 26:22.0, while Neuroth was 27th in 26:25.8.
 
Junior Seth Zimdars (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) placed fourth on the team and 53rd with a personal-best 26:58.8, and senior Braeden Michael (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) was close behind with a career record 27:05.7, good for 63rd overall. Other top seven finishers included sophomore Stephen Zaborowski (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), whose personal record time of 27:17.8 was good for 76th, and senior Jeremy Morgan (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park), who placed 96th after crossing the finish line in 27:36.6.
 
Sophomore Jessie Braun led the women for the second straight week with a 24:30.9, good for 64th out of 324 participants. Sophomore Julia Fewell and freshman Julia Wesley finished just over four seconds apart. Fewell placed 98th in 25:06.5, only 10 seconds off a personal best, and Wesley was 104th with a 25:10.8.
 
Senior Elizabeth Considine placed 146th in 25:55.5. Sophomore Tiffany Bianco crossed the finish line in 26:23.1, good for 167th, and junior Hailey Van Ells tallied a 26:32.3, good for 178th.
 
Junior Gabrielle Martin rounded out the top seven in 26:49.7, good for 192nd, and was followed closely by sophomore Jenny Kinjerski, who finished in the next slot with a 26:50.1.
 
UW-Whitewater visits UW-Eau Claire next Friday, Sept. 28, for the Blugold Invitational at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wis., the site of the 2018 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Friday's women's race is set to begin at 4:15 p.m., with the men's race to start at 5:15 p.m.
