The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team concluded play in the Midwest Invitational at Nielson Tennis Stadium Saturday, defeating 39th-ranked DePauw (Ind.) to claim fifth place.

The Warhawks (15-4) knocked off DePauw 7-2. This was their second victory over the Tigers (4-10) this season, the first being a 5-4 dual at the end of the Spring Trip.

In doubles, seniors
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger)Â and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) claimed the first match 8-4. Senior
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and junior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) scored a point in the second slot in a similar 8-4 fashion, giving the Warhawks a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

The Warhawks started off singles with a hard fought loss in the fifth slot, but quickly took control of the match. They scored four points in a row in straight sets, with freshman
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) clinching the match in the sixth position in a 6-3, 6-4 triumph.Â

Women's tennis will be back in action next Friday. The team hosts No. 12 Washington-St. Louis at 4 p.m. at Wangerin Courts.
