The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis teams both played Washington-St. Louis at home at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville. The matches were moved from Wangerein Courts due to inclement weather.
The men (13-7) lost 9-0 to the 10th-ranked Washington-St. Louis men (11-6), while the 39th-ranked women (15-5) lost to the 12th-ranked Washington St. Louis women (9-4) in a 6-3 dual. Both were the first home loss by either Warhawk squad during this season.
The Warhawk men were swept in every match in their dual, the lone set victory coming from sophomore
Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) in the fifth slot. He battled against Jason Haugen in a 6-3, 3-6 (13-15) affair in one of the final matches of the evening.
The Warhawk women started off with a pair of wins in doubles. In the first slot, seniors
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) notched a point, while in the second match senior
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and junior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) added another one. The Warhawks headed into singles up 2-1, but fell behind quickly. Freshman
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) put together a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the fifth position as the lone Warhawk win in singles.
Both teams will be back in action on Sunday at home against Chicago at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville. The women play at 9:45 a.m., while the men play at 2 p.m. to finish the day. The men will honor seniors
