The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis teams concluded play in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on Wednesday.  Both teams played against DePauw (Ind.)

The No. 32 Warhawk women (13-3) started off the day with a 5-4 victory against the No. 29-ranked DePauw team, before the men (13-5) finished the trip with a 6-3 victory over the DePauw men (3-11).

The women played the morning game against DePauw.  In doubles, the Warhawks claimed the no. 1 slot after their opponents retired from the match.  In the number two match, junior Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and senior Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) found themselves in a tight affair against Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder, but pulled off a 9-8 (8-6) victory to secure the second doubles point.  Heading into singles, the Warhawks took control with victories by seniors Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and Talyansky in the third and second matches respectively.  Kitchell clinched the match for the Warhawks in the No. 1 slot with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Colleen Morris.

The men followed up the women in the final spring trip dual.  In doubles the men found themselves down 2-1 early, the lone point being scored by senior Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich)  and sophomore Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) in the third slot.  The Warhawks took control in singles, winning four out of their five points in straight sets.  Thompson led the charge in the first slot in a 6-0, 6-2 affair, while senior Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School)added on a point in the second match.  After senior Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) battled back to win the no. 6 slot junior Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) clinched the match for the Warhawks in the no. 3 singles match 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

The Warhawk women will play again on Friday, April 6, in the Midwest Invitational at Nielson Tennis Stadium in Madison.  Meanwhile, the Warhawk men will return to the courts at 10 a.m. Central time on Sunday, April 8, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to play against Kalamazoo.
