The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater tennis teams both played against Carleton (Minn.) Saturday afternoon.
The 32nd-ranked Warhawk women (10-3) dropped a 5-4 affair to the 39th-ranked Carleton women (8-3). The men (10-5) fell 8-1 against Carleton (14-2).
The women started off in singles against Carleton, dropping the first match before junior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) claimed a point in the second slot in straight sets. After the Warhawks fell in the third and fourth matches, junior
Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) emerged victorious in the fifth position against Elizabeth Yim. Heading into doubles down 4-2, the Warhawks scored points in the first two doubles matches to tie the dual at four apiece. Seniors
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and
Jilian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) claimed a win 8-4, while Kitchell and senior
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) notched the tying point in an 8-6 affair. Martin and freshmen
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) nearly pulled off a victory in the third slot, but fell just short, 9-8 (7-3).
The Warhawk men started off in doubles against Carleton, dropping all three prosets before heading into singles. Carleton claimed four of their five singles points in straight sets. Sophomore
Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) emerged with a point in the sixth slot versus Sahil Chhugani in a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) affair to put the team on the board.
The Warhawk men and women will be back in action Monday, continuing their spring trip in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Both the men and women play Erksine (S.C.) at 8 a.m. Central Time. The men then play St. Olaf (Minn.) at 2 p.m. Central, while the women compete against Coastal Georgia at the same time.
