The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday at the Pointer Open at UW-Stevens Point.
The sixth-ranked Warhawk men placed third out of seven teams, while the women finished fifth out of eight teams.
The men won three events, led by sophomore
Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton), who moved into the top 10 in NCAA Division III in the pole vault with a season-best 15-11.00 (4.85 meters). Senior
Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) won the 1-mile run in 4:25.03, and sophomore
Tanner Stephens (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 45-02.50 (13.78 meters).
Runner-up finishers included freshman
Dwayne Ford (Racine, Wis./Case), who submitted a time of 7.06 seconds in the 60-meter dash, senior
Robert Martin (Bangor, Wis./Bangor), who completed the 60-meter hurdles in 8.54 seconds, and junior
Dylan Ferger (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner), who posted a height of 6-05.00 (1.96 meters) in the high jump.
Freshman
Landon Zimmerman (New Glarus, Wis./New Glarus) registered personal record marks in both the shot put and weight throw. He placed third in the shot put with a 50-05.25 (15.37 meters) and fourth in the weight throw with a 51-01.75 (15.59 meters).
On the women's side, senior
Lindsay Chase (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) and sophomore
Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) each won events. Chase improved her career best mark in the weight throw to 57-02.00 (17.42 meters), good for sixth in the nation and first place out of 24 competitors. Felton topped the 43-runner field in the 200-meter dash with a career best time of 25.78 seconds, good for ninth in the country after conversion for track size.
Other top-three finishers included senior
Enyo Amet (Racine, Wis./Prairie), who placed third in the high jump with a 5-01.25 (1.56 meters), and freshman
Jessie Braun (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine), who completed the 1-mile run in 5:26.65, good for third place.
The Warhawks host the Midwest Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 10, starting at 11 a.m. at Kachel Fieldhouse. Several of the nation's top teams are slated to compete at the inaugural meet.
