The UW-Whitewater men's tennis team won a Friday night dual at the Racine Tennis Club against Carthage College.
The No. 38 Warhawks (7-2) claimed their seventh straight dual victory in an 8-1 affair against Carthage (3-2).
The Warhawks emerged victorious in all three doubles matches. Senior
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and junior Jimmy
Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) won the No. 1 in a tiebreaker set over Herman Abban and Daniel Moore 9-8 (7-5). In the no. 3 match, senior
Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) and sophomore
Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) upended their opponents 8-1, while junior
Brandon Detcher (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) and senior
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) claimed the second slot in an 8-3 match.
In singles, the Warhawks won five out of six matches. Navratil dropped the first match, but Thompson emerged victorious in a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) contest. Engelhart clinched the dual for the Warhawks with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Sophomore
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) rounded out the night in the no. 6 spot with a 6-4, 6-2 score.
The Warhawks will be back in dual action at Wooster College next Saturday at 11 a.m. central time.
