The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team won its sixth straight dual at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville Saturday afternoon.
The no. 38 ranked Warhawks won 8-1 against Grinnell College (3-2) to cap off a weekend of home play. The Warhawks won all three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches.
In doubles, senior
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and junior
Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) claimed the no. 1 match 8-4 over Sriram Sugumaran and Ben Cobin, while senior
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) and junior
Brandon Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) took the no. 2 slot 8-3. Senior
Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) and sophomore
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) rounded out the doubles matches with a 8-6 victory.
In singles, Navratil and Thompson claimed the no. 1 and 2 slots respectively, with Thompson clinching the dual for the Warhawks in a 5-7, 6-0, 10-6 match over Zach Lane. Engelhart and Zurowski continued to add points to the Warhawks total in straight sets. Sophomore
Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) dropped the first set in the No. 5 slot but came back to claim another point for the Warhawks in a 6-7 (3), 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) affair.
The Warhawks will be back in action against Carthage next Friday at 6 p.m. at the Racine Indoor Club.
