The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's cross country team registered its second straight top 10 finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, placing 10th Saturday at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wis.
Sophomore
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) unofficially marked the program's fifth straight year with a qualifier for the NCAA Championship, placing 10th overall out of 252 runners with a mark of 24:50.3, only one and one-half second off his personal record pace. Official qualifiers for the NCAA Championship will be announced Sunday at 12 p.m. Central Time via a press release on
NCAA.com.
Fassbender's All-Region finish was the 18th top 10 individual result in program history.
As a team, UW-Whitewater collected 262 points with an average time of 25:54 in the 8-kilometer race.
Senior
Jonah Nelson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) also secured All-Region honors with his top 35 showing. He placed 28th overall, crossing the finish line in a season-best 25:27.8.
Sophomore
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) just missed out on a top 35 finish with a personal record 25:43.6, good for 39th.
Sophomores
Brian Kuehl (Geneva, Ill./Geneva),
Conner Hackett (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) and junior
Aaron Carmichael (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran HS) finished in a pack fewer than three seconds apart. Kuehl posted a 26:43.2, less than one second shy of his career best, to place 91st. Hackett completed the race in 26:45.0, good for 94th, and Carmichael crossed the finish line in 26:45.5, less than one second from his personal record and 96th overall.
Senior
Braeden Michael (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) rounded out Warhawk finishers with a 27:29.7, good for 132nd.
The NCAA Championships are scheduled for next Saturday, Nov. 17, at 12 p.m. at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. UW-Oshkosh is the host of the national meet.
