The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams hosted the UW-Oshkosh Open Friday at the UW-Whitewater Cross Country Course.
The meet was moved to Whitewater earlier this week after course conditions at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne were determined unfit for competition.
The Warhawk women placed fifth at the five-team meet, while the men competed as individuals and did not accumulate a team score.
Freshman Amanda Leder led the UW-Whitewater women with a 28:14.52 in the 6-kilometer race, good for 31st place out of 47 runners. Senior Lauren Oleniczak was close behind with a season-best 28:27.60, good for 32nd.
Sophomore Samantha Sommerville placed 35th, crossing the finish line in a personal record time of 28:33.32. Freshmen Hanan Ali and Morgan Smarzinski finished 37th and 38th, respectively. Ali crossed the finish line in 29:37.82, while Smarzinski posted a 29:48.55.
Junior
Grant Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) led the men in the 8-kilometer event with a 28:21.84, good for 15th out of 65 competitors. Freshman
Mathias Otten (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) finished 22nd in 28:45.75.
Junior
Andrew Hirsch (Brookfield, Wis./Catholic Memorial) crossed the finish line in 29:51.79, good for 41st place, and senior
Benjamin Maas (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) tallied a mark of 30:17.73 to finish 49th.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships are set for next week Saturday, Oct. 27, at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wis. The women's race begins at 12 p.m., with the men's championship scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
