The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams previewed the NCAA Championship course Saturday at the Kollege Town Sports Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.
The Warhawk men placed 29th out of 50 teams, while the women finished 44th out of 52 teams.
Sophomore
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) paced the men with a 26:09.4, good for 54th in the field of 344. Senior
Jonah Nelson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) crossed the finish line in 156th place with a mark of 26:58.1.
Sophomores
Conner Hackett (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) and
Kyle Neuroth (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) finished in a pack to place 193rd and 197th, respectively. Hackett finished the event in 27:17.3, and Neuroth crossed in 27:20.6.
Senior
Jeremy Morgan (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) tallied a 27:38.2, good for 221st. Senior
Braeden Michael (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) finished in 236th with his 27:46.5, and junior
Seth Zimdars (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) rounded out UW-Whitewater competitors with a 29:10.9, good for 312th.
Sophomore Jessie Braun led the women with a 24:43.7, good for 189th place out of 349 runners. Freshman Julia Wesley finished second on the team and 204th overall with a career-best 24:50.3.
Senior Manda Slaback crossed the finish line in just over 25 minutes at 25:02.2, good for 220th. Sophomore Julia Fewell placed 262nd with a 25:38.0, and senior Elizabeth Considine finished the 6-kilometer race in 26:13.2, good for 286th.
Other UW-Whitewater finishers included junior Tiffany Bianco, whose time of 26:49.4 was good for 312th, and sophomore Jenny Kinjerski, who finished 320th in 27:12.7.
Several Warhawk runners on both the men's and women's side competed in the open races. Junior
Aaron Carmichael (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran HS) led the men with a 27:55.4, and sophomore Hailey Van Ells paced the women with a 27:04.7.
UW-Whitewater returns to Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne Friday for the Oshkosh Open. The women's race begins at 1:30 p.m., with the men's event set to begin at 2:15 p.m.
