The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams continued the indoor season Friday at the North Central Cardinal Opener in Naperville, Ill.
The Warhawk men placed second out of six teams with 181 points, while the women finished fifth out of eight teams with 77.50 points.
On the men's side, senior Parker Witt tallied a 6.85 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash to improve his season-best result among the top three in NCAA Division III.
Sophomores Alex Duff and Christian Jackson each improved their season-best times in the 60-meter hurdles. Duff finished first with a time of 8.17 seconds, and Jackson crossed the finish line second and posted a season-best 8.22 in the preliminary race. Both marks rank among the top 15 in the nation.
Freshman Brian Kuehl jumped into the top 10 in the country in the 800-meter run with a mark of 1:55.71. Senior Brett Harms claimed first place in the 1-mile run with a 4:27.04, and was followed closely by freshman David Fassbender, who was third with a 4:27.89.
Sophomore Adam Schommer registered a top 15 result in the pole vault with a 15-03.00 (4.65 meters) to finish second in the event.
Sophomore Julio Perez won the shot put with a 51-02.75 (15.61 meters). He entered the night ranked sixth in the nation in the event.
On the women's side, senior
Lindsay Chase (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) moved into the top 20 in the nation in the weight throw by improving her season best toss to 51-01.00 (15.57 meters).
Sophomore
Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and senior
Enyo Amet (Racine, Wis./Prairie) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Felton posted a time of 26.23, and Amet crossed the finish line in 26.48 seconds. Amet also tied for second in the high jump with a mark of 4-11.50 (1.51 meters).
Freshman
Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) rounded out top three placers for the women with a runner-up finish in the long jump (17-04.00 / 5.28 meters).
UW-Whitewater resumes action next weekend. The men host the "Squig" Converse Invitational Friday starting at 5 p.m., while the women host the Warhawk Classic Invitational Saturday, Jan. 27, starting at noon.
