The No. 27 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Team Championship for the eighth straight year Thursday morning with a 5-0 victory over Northwestern (Minn.) at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks (20-7 overall), who also clinched their 10th straight season with 20 or more wins in dual matches, swept all three doubles matches and won the first two in singles to end the match, which was played to decision.
UW-Whitewater advances to face No. 21 Hope (Mich.), a 5-0 winner over St. Scholastica (Minn.) in Thursday's first round.
Juniors
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) put the Warhawks on the board against the Eagles (24-7) with an 8-1 triumph at the second position. Senior
Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and junior
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) followed suit with an 8-1 win at No. 3, and senior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and junior
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) gave the team a three-point lead with an 8-2 victory at No. 1.
Beck collected a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the fifth singles slot to up UW-Whitewater's lead to four, and Wallace clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4.
Friday's contest against Hope is a rematch of last year's NCAA second round, a 5-0 Warhawk win at Wangerin Courts.
