The No. 22 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team finished the highly competitive Midwest Invitational on a high note Saturday, defeating No. 30 Denison (Ohio) 6-3 in a dual match at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
The Warhawks (17-5) claimed two of three doubles matches and won four of six in singles to down the Big Red (6-9).
Senior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and junior
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) combined for an 8-3 triumph at the top doubles slot, and juniors
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) teamed up for an 8-2 victory at the second position.
Talyansky and Wallace continued their strong play in singles, finishing unbeaten in all matches during the weekend with wins at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions, respectively. Talyansky was a 6-2, 6-1 winner, while Wallace collected a 6-1, 6-3 triumph.
Junior
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5, and junior
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) rounded out Warhawk scoring with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.
The Warhawks continue against strong competition next week Friday at No. 10 Washington-St. Louis at 4 p.m. It will be UW-Whitewater's fourth straight dual against a nationally ranked opponent.
