The No. 25 UW-Whitewater women's track and field team took second place out of ten teams competing in the Viking Invitational at Augustana College on Friday night. The Warhawk women scored 132 points to finish as the runner-up to Olivet Nazarene University, a NAIA school (189 points).

The Warhawks were led by a pair of record-breaking performances from seniors
Genny Rose Stringer (Assumption, Ill./Assumption) and
Meredith Porter (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall). Stringer threw a huge new career-best mark of 169-00 (51.51 meters) in the discus throw to break Shelby Mahr's previous school record of 165-7 (50.47 meters) set in 2015. Stringer's school record mark puts her at No. 1 in Division III in the event by over three meters.
Meredith Porter (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall) reset her own school record from a year ago, winning the 400 meter hurdles in a new career-best 1:01.18. That time moves her to No. 4 in Division III in the event.

There were several other strong performances from the Warhawk women on Friday, including many new career-best marks and times. Senior
Leah Richter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) took second in the pole vault with a mark of 11-04.50 (3.47 meters) Sophomore
Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) took second in the 400 meters in 57.50, and Richter took fourth in 58.17. Senior
Amanda Strupp (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 160-04 (48.08 meters). Strupp also placed fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 146-10 (44.77 meters). Freshman
Miranda Slaback (Janesville, Wis./Parker) placed second in her 10,000 meter debut, finishing in 39:21.30.

Erika Sternard (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) placed third in the high jump with a jump of 5-01 (1.55 meters). Sophomore
Enyo Amet (Racine, Wis./Prairie) set a huge new outdoor best in the 400 meter dash with her time of 58.86, placing fifth. Junior
Kathryn Dejung (Gillett, Wis./Gillett) finished fifth in the javelin throw with a big new career-best throw of 103-06 (31.55 meters). Â Freshman
Sydney Prestifilippo (Naperville, Ill./North) ran to a 30-second personal best in the steeplechase, placing fifth in 12:05.48. Fellow freshman
Hailey Van Ells (Greendale, Wis./Martin Luther) placed fifth in the 800 meters in 2:21.03, knocking over two seconds off her previous personal best time. Sophomore
Jordan Tokarski (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) rounded out an impressive day of personal bests for the Warhawk women, finishing in fifth place in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:08.09, a career-best by three seconds.

Next Thursday through Saturday, the women's team will send some athletes to compete at the 108th edition of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Additionally, next Saturday April 29, the Warhawk women's and men's track and field teams will host the Drake Alternative Meet at the Rex Foster track. Events will begin at 11 a.m.
