The No. 22 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team played on campus for the first time since the fall season Saturday, winning a pair of dual matches at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks (15-4 overall) downed Carthage 8-1 before posting a 9-0 triumph over Elmhurst (Ill.).
In the match against Carthage (11-5), UW-Whitewater swept the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Senior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and junior
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) put the team on the board with an 8-1 victory at the top slot. Juniors
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) combined for an 8-5 win at No. 2, and juniors
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) and
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) teamed up for an 8-6 triumph at No. 3.
Wallace gave the Warhawks a 4-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the fourth singles position, and Beck clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position.
Talyansky and Humphreys were next on the board for UW-Whitewater at the Nos. 3 and 1 positions, respectively. Talyansky collected a 6-2, 6-2 triumph, while Humphreys registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Goebel completed Warhawk scoring with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Against Elmhurst (7-12), UW-Whitewater's No. 2 (Wallace/Talyansky) and No. 3 (Beck/Goebel) tandems cruised to quick victories to give the team a 2-0 lead. Humphreys and McGuire trailed 6-5 before rallying for a 9-7 triumph at No. 1.
All six singles players recorded straight-set wins. Humphreys, Talyansky, Wallace, Beck, Goebel and senior
Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) combined to drop only three games.
The Warhawks compete next at the Midwest Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, in Madison.
