Richter, Porter Lead Women’s Track and Field on Day One of the WIAC Indoor Championships

After day one of the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship meet at UW-Stout, the Warhawk women's track and field team sits in fifth place with 39.5 points. UW-La Crosse heads in to day two on top of the team standings with 60.5 points.
 
The Warhawk women were led on day one with championship titles from seniors Meredith Porter (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall) and Leah Richter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac). Richter won her first WIAC indoor individual title in the pole vault with a mark of 12-02.50 (3.72 meters). In the 400 meter dash, Porter also won her first WIAC indoor individual title in a time of 56.97, a new UW-Stout facility record. Also in the 400, freshman Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) placed fourth in 57.76 and Richter placed fifth in 57.94 to contribute a total of 19 points for the team in the event.
 
Junior Enyo Amet (Racine, Wis./Prairie) tied for third place in the high jump with a mark of 5-01.25 (1.56 meters), scoring 4.5 points towards the team score.
 
The team of freshman Hailey Van Ells (Greendale, Wis./Martin Luther), Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran), junior Monica Sweet (Franklin, Wis./Franklin), and freshman Miranda Slaback (Janesville, Wis./Parker) placed third in the Distance Medley Relay in a time of 12:45.36 to score six points and round out the day one scoring for the Warhawks.
 
Freshman Sydney Rossow (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) ran 9.09 in the 60 meter hurdles, and heads in to her first WIAC Championship final tomorrow as the top seed.
 
Freshman Celeste Madda (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) ran 7.81 in the preliminary round of the 60 meter dash and has the second fastest time headed in to tomorrow's final.

After day one of competition in the pentathlon, freshman Liz Liska (New Berlin, Wis./West) sits in tenth with 2619 points and sophomore Olivia Asta (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) is in eleventh place with 1317 points.  

The Warhawks head in to the second and final day of the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships tomorrow, starting with the 60 meter hurdles of the women's pentathlon at 9 a.m. Field events begin at 11 a.m., and the first running event is scheduled for 1:50 p.m. Tomorrow's schedule along with a link to live results can be found on the WIAC Championships page.
