The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team enjoyed another strong day Saturday to remain in third place at the 23-team Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Invitational in Houston, Texas.
The Warhawks tallied a 4-1 record to improve to 8-1 for the weekend and upped their total pinfall to 10,143, good for an average of 202.9 per game.
After opening the day with a narrow 988-972 loss against second-ranked Arkansas State, UW-Whitewater finished the day with wins over No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 13 Tulane, Louisiana Tech and Southern, totaling more than 1,000 pins in three of the four games.
Senior
Amanda Van Duyn (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Bradford) placed first out of 154 competitors in the five traditional games to earn the tournament's Most Valuable Player award. She averaged 230.2 per game, including a high of 268.
Van Duyn was followed in the standings by senior
Ashleigh Miller (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township), who placed 20th with a 204.4 average, and senior
Taylor Hoppe (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson), who was 31st with a 198.4. Sophomore
Emma Kuhn (Texas City, Texas/Texas City) finished 43rd with a 191.4.
The Warhawks face Stephen F. Austin to open best-of-seven Baker bracket play Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
