Madda and Stringer Lead Warhawks to 2nd at Meet of Champions

Behind thirteen top five finishes, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team finished second out of twelve teams at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on Friday. The Warhawks totaled 111.2 points, just ten shy of first place Olivet Nazarene.
 
Celeste Madda (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) hauled in seventeen points and Genny Stringer tallied fifteen to lead UW-W. Madda won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.56 and finished third in the 200 with a time of 25.62. Stringer notched a first place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 47.2 meters (154' 10"), and added a fifth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 12.26 meters (40' 2.75"). Stringer's hurl in the discus is the fourth best mark in Division III thus far in the outdoor season.
 
The Warhawks also earned ten points from their 4x100 meter relay team, who broke the tape with a time of 48.39.
 
UW-W had a strong showing in the 100 meter hurdles with three Warhawks finishing among the top eight. Haley Precia (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) finished third with a time of 13.78, Megan Linse (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) was sixth in 16.16, and Kathryn DeJung came in eighth recording a time of 16.52.
 
Other top five finishers include Amy Kahl (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) who took home second place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase recording a time of 11.33.10, twenty seconds faster than last week. Brianna Frey (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was the third place finisher in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.62. Meredith Heller (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall) and Candice Wayne (West Bend, Wis./West) finished 3-4 in the 400 meter hurdles, separated by just .04. Tyler Henderson (Madison, Wis./Verona) took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.19 meters (36' 8.5") and Emma Glogovsky (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) tied for fourth in the pole vault, ascending 3.50 meters (11' 5.75").
 
The Warhawks had 21 different athletes score points in 15 events.
 
UW-Whitewater will host the Drake Alternative Meet next Saturday at Rex Foster Track.
