Related Links:Box ScoreFollow Warhawk Tennis on Twitter The No. 26 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team suffered its first dual match defeat Tuesday morning, falling 5-4 against 15th-ranked DePauw (Ind.) in a non-conference affair at Hilton Head Tennis Resorts in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Warhawks (15-1 overall), who are slotted sixth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won two of three doubles matches to start the contest.
The No. 1 doubles pair of junior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and sophomore
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) were first on the board with an 8-2 triumph.
Sophomore
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and freshman
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) scratched out a 9-8 (4) win at the third position to give UW-Whitewater the lead heading into singles action.
The Tigers (5-4), who are ranked second in the region by the ITA, claimed four of the first five singles matches.
Kitchell posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2, and McGuire capped UW-Whitewater scoring with a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) triumph at the third slot.
The Warhawks close play in Hilton Head Thursday against Erskine (S.C.) and St. Thomas (Minn.) at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Central Time, respectively. St. Thomas is tied for 10th in the Central Region rankings.
