The ninth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team posted a key victory in a best-of-seven Baker series Sunday to help clinch an eighth-place finish at the Warhawk Classic at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha.
Seeded eighth in championship bracket play, the Warhawks were downed by No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson before outlasting No. 13 LIU Brooklyn in seven games to clinch a top-eight finish.
UW-Whitewater concluded the day with a 4-1 setback against Fairleigh Dickinson in the seventh-place match.
Junior
Ashley Kouba (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) was the Warhawks' top individual finisher, placing 12th out of 116 bowlers with a 211.8 average in five traditional games, including a team-best game of 248.
Senior
Amanda Van Duyn (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Bradford) was 26th with a 196.6, and sophomore
Lauren Price (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was 37th with a 184.2.
UW-Whitewater closes out the calendar year Dec. 3-4 as the Warhawks' JV team hosts the Warhawk Open in Madison.
