The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams both won their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at UW-Oshkosh.
The Men posted a 161-28 victory, while the women won by a 144-89 margin.
Junior
Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West) won an event and was also two first place relay teams to lead the women. Matthys placed first in the 100-yard free style in a time of 55.60.
Matthys also teamed with seniors
Sarah Arteaga (Greenfield/Whitnall) and
Grace Devine (Sussex/Hamilton), and sophomore
Melanie Carlson (Waukesha, Wis./West) to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.29. Carlson, Arteaga, and Matthys were joined by sophomore
Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson) to take first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.62.
Other individual event winners included senior
Margaret Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), junior
Alyssa Haertl (Oshkosh, Wis./West), sophomore
Bailey Weston (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson),
Anna Wolf (Blanchardville, Wis./New Glarus), Madeline Carroll, and freshman
Shayna Putney (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower).
Lotzer placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:57.42, while Haertl claimed the 50-yard freestyle with a 26.77. Weston won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Wolf claimed the 200-yard butterfly in 2:27.10.
UW-Whitewater's men team took every event this afternoon.
The Warhawks swept the five freestyle events as freshman
Cameron Gidlow (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:32.29, junior
Steven Missak (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) took the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:50.02, junior
Sam Piette (Germantown/Germantown) claimed the 50-yard freestyle in 23.16 and sophomore
Peter Loftus (Janesville, Wis./Craig) was first in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:02.00. Senior
Alex Gidlow (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) took the 100-yard freestyle with a 49.57.
Piette also claimed 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.13. Senior
Sam Bowman (Onalaska/Onalaska) took the 200-yard IM with a mark of 2:03.42, while junior
Kevin Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.88. Senior
Alex Carroll (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) took first in the 200-yard breast stroke with a mark of 2:16.79.

Cameron Gidlow (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley), sophomore Bruce Admunson, and Piette teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.91.
Loftus and Missak were joined by freshman Peter Theodor and junior
Andrew Langenhahn (Appleton/Appleton East) to take first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.16.
