The No. 1/7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team stands in eighth out of 14 teams through one day of competition at the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
 
The Warhawks struggled on day one tallying a 2-3 record in five Baker matches. UW-Whitewater's cumulative score of 4,628 was just 180 pins shy of No.8 Stephen F. Austin State University, who is currently in seventh place.
 
No. 9 McKendree University leads the tournament with a total of 5,183.
 
After opening the day with three straight losses against No. 3 Vanderbilt University 860-1,008, No. 4 Sam Houston State University 888-1,065, and No. 2 Arkansas State University 938-1,138, the Warhawks rebounded with two victories to end the day.
 
UW-Whitewater defeated Louisiana Tech by a score of 955-895, and No. 15 Valparasio University in a close match 987-912.
 
Tournament play resumes Saturday at 9:40 a.m. Central Time with five traditional team matches.
