The No. 28 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team took on a pair of nationally ranked opponents Saturday, finishing 1-1 in dual matches at Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.

The Warhawks (18-3 overall) downed 38th-ranked Texas-Tyler 5-4 in their first match of the day, then fell 9-0 in the second against No. 11 Washington-St. Louis, the top-ranked team in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

In the match against Texas-Tyler (13-5), the Warhawks swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Sophomore
Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and freshman
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) registered an 8-0 shutout at the third position. At No. 2, freshmen
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) earned an 8-3 triumph over Sarah Moses and Jennifer Payne, the 10th-ranked doubles pair in the West Region.

Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and freshman
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) finished the sweep with an 8-5 win at the first slot.

McGuire and Beck tallied victories in singles to account for the one-point margin. McGuire was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 1, while Beck clinched the match with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 triumph at the fifth position.

In the team's second match of the day, the Bears (15-4) took all three doubles contests to jump out to an early lead. Humphreys and McGuire gave Rebecca Ho and Jamie Silverberg, the region's No. 1 pair, all they could handle, but eventually fell 8-5 at the top slot.

Washington claimed all six singles spots. The Bears' singles lineup features two players ranked among the top 10 in the region.

UW-Whitewater concludes play in St. Louis Sunday against No. 15 Chicago. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
