Related Links:Box Score The No. 27 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team remained undefeated for the 2014-15 season Thursday with a 9-0 victory over Colby (Maine) in a dual match at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
The Warhawks, currently 15-0 overall, concluded their spring break trip with a 3-0 mark. The team's match against Southeastern (Fla.) originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Mules dropped to 5-6 for their season with the setback.
UW-Whitewater won each doubles spot by identical 8-2 scores.
Sophomore
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and freshman
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) improved to 8-2 playing together, including a 5-1 record at the No. 1 position.
The team's No. 2 pair, freshmen
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead), moved to 5-0 at the position.
At the third slot, junior captain
Ashley Miller (Racine/Union Grove) and sophomore
Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) improved to 9-2, including a perfect 6-0 in dual matches.
In singles play, Humphreys (24-3 record) and Wallace (15-3) didn't allow a game in 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at the first and fourth spots, respectively.
McGuire (No. 3) and Talyansky (No. 4) also cruised to straight set victories. McGuire picked up her 15th win of the year by a 6-0, 6-1 count, while Talyansky bumped her impressive mark up to 22-2, good for second on the team in wins, with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph.
Siemon, playing at No. 5, was the fifth player to finish, registering a 6-3, 6-1 victory to move to 12-4.
Senior
Emily Sodemann (Janesville/Parker) capped the Warhawks' shutout effort, overcoming a first-set loss for a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 6. She improved to 5-2 with the win.
UW-Whitewater returns to competition next week Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, at the Midwest Invitational at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
