The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's swimming and diving team fell to conference UW-La Crosse 132-111 Saturday afternoon in Williams Center Pool. The Warhawks produced three season-best times and won six events in the meet.
Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Kenosha Bradford) led UW-Whitewater with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke. Devroy was the first to touch the wall in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.93.
James Rodney (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) finished fifth in the event with a time of 2:05.96. Devroy's 53.02 was the best in the 100 back. Teammates
Dan Bielski (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) and
Matthew Gilson (Muskego/Muskego) finished fourth and sixth with times of 54.59 and 57.53 respectively.
Josh Kanute (Geneva, Ill./Marmion Academy) also posted two individual event wins. Kanute's 1:46.38 was tops in the 200-yard freestyle and he posted a time of 4:55.40 to win the 500-yard freestyle.
Steven Missak (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) and
Alex Gidlow (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) tied for third in the 200 free with identical times of 1:49.13. Bowman registered a time of 5:05.53 to finish third in the 500 free followed by
David Joerres (New Berlin/St. Thomas More) was right behind in fourth with a time of 5:06.64.
Sam Bowman (Onalaska/Onalaska) won the 1000-yard freestyle recorded a season-best time of 10:18.93.
Andrew Staszak (Franklin/Greendale) and
Jake Shackelford (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa East) finished 3-4 in the event with times of 10:33.25 and 10:47.
Spencer Twining (Janesville/Janesville Parker) rounded out the winning Warhawks with a top time in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:01.02. Austin Muehlschlagel finished second with a time of 1:01.70 and
Kyle Amundson (Janesville/Janesville Parker) made it a sweep of the top three with a time of 1:03.33.
In the 50-yard freestyle,
Ryan Stuart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincolnway East) was third with a time of 22.75 followed by
Brad Wilson (Brookfield/Milwaukee Lutheran) in fifth who stopped the clock in 22.78. Muehlschlagel registered a time of 24.54 for sixth.
Dan Bielski (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) added third place points with a season-best time of 53.88 in the 100-yard butterfly. Anthony Heilberger was fifth and
Kevin Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) sixth with times of 55.75 and 56.58 respectively. Gidlow was the top Warhawk in the 100-yard freestyle touching the wall second in 48.72. Missak's 49.16 was fifth and Stuart added a sixth place finish in a time of 49.32.
Keefer Kuhl (Kenosha/Kenosha Bradford) finished second in both dives. He posted a season-best total of 240.35 off the three-meter board and added a 239.20 in the one-meter competition.
Riley Maher (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) was fourth and third in the two dives.
UW-Whitewater's relay teams went 3-4 in two relays Saturday. The Warhawks' foursome of Devroy, Twining, Bielski and Gidlow was third in the 200-yard medley relay registering a time of 1:38.31 followed by Lotzer, Amundson, Heilberger and
Andrew Langenhahn (Appleton/Appleton East) with a time of 1:43.22. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Stuart, Missak, Kanute and Rodney teamed for a time of 1:29.06 and
Aidan Biedrzycki (Milwaukee/Milwaukee King), Bowman, Heilberger and Wilson combined for a 1:32.30.
The Warhawks will have a week to prepare for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships scheduled to begin February 19 in Brown Deer.
