Bowling Places Fourth at Crusader Classic

The No. 1/7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team finished in fourth place over the weekend at the 14-team Crusader Classic, closing tournament play Sunday with three Baker matches in Valparaiso, Ind.
 
The Warhawks opened the day against No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Nebraska, falling 4-2 in a best-of-seven Baker match. UW-Whitewater won the first and fourth games in the series, including a series-high 221 in the fourth, but fell in the last two contests by a combined 30 pins.
 
The Warhawks rebounded in their next match, besting No. 2 Arkansas State for the second straight day by a 4-2 score. UW-Whitewater rolled three 200-plus games in the series to advance to the third place series.
 
In a rematch with Nebraska, the Warhawks were downed in four games to place fourth for the weekend.
 
Following play, senior Lindsay Rusch (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) was named to the All-Tournament team. She finished fourth out of 93 bowlers in the individual standings after averaging a 213.6 yesterday in five traditional games.

UW-Whitewater also competed over the weekend at the Titan Invitational in Oshkosh. Heading into match play Sunday, the team was fourth out of 11 teams and the junior varsity squad ranked first in its draw. Freshmen Paige Mayer (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) and Lauren Price (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) posted strong performances.
 
The Warhawks close competition for the fall semester next weekend at the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
