The No. 1/7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team opened its 2015-16 season Friday on the first day of the FDU Florham New Jersey Jamboree in New Brunswick, N.J.
 
The Warhawks finished 3-2 in traditional matches for the day, defeating Howard (D.C.) 913-793, No. 10 North Carolina A&T State 1058-975 and No. 16 St. Francis Brooklyn (N.Y.) 1057-975. The team was defeated 1003-858 by No. 17 Delaware State and 1036-1003 by No. 13 Sacred Heart (Conn.).
 
UW-Whitewater is eighth in team scoring out of 26 teams after the first day with a total of 4,890 pins (195.6 per game average).
 
Junior Taylor Hoppe (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson) led the Warhawks in three of their five matches on the day, including the team's wins over Howard and North Carolina A&T State. She posted a 202.6 average to rank 22nd in the individual standings.
 
Senior Lindsay Rusch (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) leads the team in 20th with a 203 average, while junior Amanda Van Duyn (Kenosha/Kenosha Bradford) registered the top score of the day with a 235 against St. Francis Brooklyn and is 25th with a 201.2.
 
Senior Jaymi Watson (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Tremper), who led UW-Whitewater with a 221 against Sacred Heart, is 39th with an average of 194.8.
 
The Warhawks will compete in five more traditional matches Saturday to determine seeding for Sunday's best-of-seven Baker matches.
