The Warhawks (5-0 overall, 2-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) started the day with an 8-1 triumph over league rival UW-La Crosse, then concluded the set with a 7-2 victory over Cardinal Stritch in a non-conference contest.
Against UW-La Crosse (5-1, 3-1), UW-Whitewater won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles affairs.
Freshmen
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) posted an 8-2 triumph at the No. 2 position, while junior captain
Ashley Miller (Racine/Union Grove) and freshman
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) were victorious by an 8-4 margin at the third slot.
McGuire and Beck, playing at the Nos. 2 and 6 spots, respectively, each registered singles wins. McGuire defeated the Eagles' Kimmy Mrozek 6-2, 6-2, while Beck was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Rachael Wabers.
Senior
Amanda Dick (Kenosha/St. Joseph Catholic Academy), sophomore
Amy Upthagrove (Muskego/Muskego) and freshman
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) were also straight-set winners. Dick knocked off Bryanne Blanton 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, Upthagrove downed Kendra Woyahn 6-3, 6-3 at the fourth slot and Talyansky moved to 7-0 on the year with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 5.
Sophomore All-American
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) recovered from a second-set loss to beat Bridget Bellissimo 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.
In the match against Cardinal Stritch (2-1), the Warhawks took all three doubles matches and claimed two of the first three singles matches completed to clinch the victory.
Miller and Wallace were strong again in doubles play, recording an 8-4 triumph at the third spot. Humphreys and Upthagrove earned a 9-7 win at the top slot, while McGuire and Beck gutted out a tiebreaker for a 9-8 (3) victory at No. 2.
Humphreys and Wallace were the first to finish wins in singles play. Humphreys cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 1 spot, while Wallace, playing at No. 6, was a 6-2, 6-3 winner.
Beck posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the fourth position. Talyansky wrapped up the Warhawks' scoring with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 triumph at No. 3.
UW-Whitewater returns to action next weekend at the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship. Play begins Friday at Gustavus Adolphus University in St. Peter, Minn.
