Box Score The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team fell to third-ranked Loras College 3-0 Friday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater to open the 2014 season. With the victory, Loras takes home the "Hawk Cup", the traveling trophy at stake when these two teams meet, for the fourth time.
UW-Whitewater put the pressure on early, earning a corner in the third minute of play.
John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) sent a ball into the box that
Kody Mjelde (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) put his head on, but the ball sailed high of the net. The Warhawks earned two more corners in the next five minutes but were unable to produce an early goal.
The Duhawks earned a free kick just outside the box in the tenth minute of play and capitalized, scoring a header goal for a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks continued to fight but the Duhawks managed two more first half goals to enter halftime with a 3-0 advantage.
Jordan Wilkins (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) had a golden opportunity early in the second half but Loras goalkeeper Sean Elvert made a tough save to preserve the shutout.
Justin Stanko (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) led the way for UW-W putting two shots on goal while
Kyle Clancy (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Wilkins each tallied one. UW-Whitewater outshot Loras 8-6 in the second half but the Duhawks outshot the Warhawks 20-10 in the game.

Tony Guinn remained optimistic after the game stating, "Obviously we have things to improve on at this time. It is early in the season and we will improve."
The Warhawks (0-1-0) will return to the pitch on Sunday when they travel to Lake Forest College (1-0-0) for a match beginning at 1:30 pm.
