Warhawks Celebrate Senior Night with 2-0 Win Over Carroll

WHITEWATER, WI — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team(10-2-4, 2-0-1) picked up their 10th win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Carroll (4-10-1, 2-3-1) on Wednesday night. UWW finished with a 17-8 advantage in shots and Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) made six saves as well as recorded an assist in his 4th solo shutout.

The Warhawks generated the first few looks of the game with an Owen Winegar (Arlington Heights, Ill./Fremd) shot in the fourth minute and a corner kick in the 10th before the Pioneers answered with pressure that included a shot off the right post and three Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) saves.

The PIoneers nearly went up early, but the Warhawks were able to resteady themselves and  regained the attacking rhythm midway through the half. UWW recorded five shots from the 26th through 34th minutes, including attempts by Luke Konrad (Buxtehude, Germany/Buxtehude Sued), Liam Treacy (Frankfurt, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), Calvo Alsina and Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township). The Warhawks kept pushing with two Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) shots and two late corner kicks before capping off the half with a goal from Caleb Bergman (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford).

Nil Calvo Alsina (Barcelona, Spain/Parkview) put the Pioneer defenders in the spin cycle to open up a lane for Bergman to bang home the game-opening goal in the 44th minute. The Warhawks carried the 1-0 lead into halftime with no time remaining for a Pioneer answer.

The Warhawks quickly added the insurance after the break, when Saul finished a chance set up by Konrad and Waite to move the score to 2-0. Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), the Warhawk keeper got the attack started with a long ball up the field, Konrad was able to play it above the defenders to find Saul in the box for the 1-on-1 goal against the Pioneer goalie.

Waite continued to protect the advantage with saves at 49:12, 55:01 and 56:15 as the Pioneers looked for a response. UWW still created late chances, with Mitchell Tackney (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead) shooting at 72:52, Brown hitting the right woodwork at 73:49, two corners in the 87th minute and Tanner Mandalinci (Woodlands, Tex./John Cooper) forcing a save at 88:27 before UWW finished a 2-0 win.

Waite recorded six saves over 90 minutes, added an assist and finished with a shutout in goal. It is the first point by a Warhawk keeper since 2023. With the primary assist on the play, Konrad reached the 10-point milestone for the season.

The Warhawks return to action on Saturday, October 24th to take on UW-Stevens Point on the road. Kick off is scheduled for 3 PM.
