Diercks, Chrisman Score Goals in Warhawk Win over Falcons

RIVER FALLS, WI — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team defeated UW-River Falls 2-0 on the road. Despite a late Faclon push, the Warhawks held firm to secure a 2-0 shut-out.

The Warhawks started the game by building pressure with corner kicks at 10:47 and 15:53. UWW kept the ball in the attacking end later in the half, generating three corners and multiple shots, including attempts by Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) and Mitchell Tackney (Dubuque, Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead).

UWW broke through at 36:18 when Mason Diercks (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) headed a goal in off a corner-kick from Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township), opening a 1-0 lead in the first half. With the assist today, Chrisman is on a three-game assist streak.

After the goal, Agostino Angelini (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada/Bishop Ryan Catholic) added another shot with UWW earning two more corners. UW-River Falls recorded its only two shots in the final four minutes of the half. The Warhawks deterred both and carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Tyler Chrisman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) scored at 61:01 to extend UWW's lead to 2-0, finishing the key second-half scoring chance after the Warhawks had already put multiple shots on frame. In the build-up to Chrisman's goal, Liam Treacy (Frankfurt, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and Hayden Saul (Iowa City, Iowa/Liberty) each forced saves from Greyson Shiek, and Saul added another shot seconds before Chrisman's goal.

UWW continued to create chances later, generating four shots and a corner kick from 77:26 to 81:11, including attempts by James Kiraly (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union), Matthew Hoover (Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic), Aidian Martin (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and Treacy.

The Falcons pushed back with seven shots and a corner in the closing stretch, but Austin Waite (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) made his only two saves of the game in the final 10 minutes as UWW finished off the half and a 2-0 win.

The Warhawks return to action on Wednesday, October 14th, heading to Lake Forest, Illinois to take on the Foresters. Kick-off is set for 4:30 PM.
