Warhawks Third in NCAA Championship

Box Score TYLER, Texas - The UW-Whitewater women's softball team wrapped up one of the best seasons in program history finishing third in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship hosted by the University of Texas at Tyler. The Warhawks fell to defending national champions Tufts University 8-0 Sunday afternoon to take third.

The Jumbos threatened in the bottom of the first with a long fly ball to right field. Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, IL/North), UW-W's right fielder, went back, found the wall, leapt and robbed Tufts of a homerun to keep the score 0-0.

TU came back in the bottom of the second with a solo homerun for the only run they would need.

Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) posted two of the team's three hits on a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

UW-W made their mark in the UW-Whitewater record book. The 2014 group totaled the most hits (500) in school history. Their numbers in wins (39), runs batted in (273), homeruns (52) and total bases (739) rank second in the program record book and their 297 runs is third most ever for a UW-W squad in a season. On the mound, the pitchers combined to throw the most innings (345) and struck out the fifth most batters (250) in a season in program history.

The Warhawks will graduate a class of six seniors that have made their mark in the program's record book. The seniors have played in 171 games and boast a record of 130-41 with a conference title, two conference tournament titles and three NCAA postseason appearances in their careers. Outfielder Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity) wrote her name into the top ten in at bats, hits and runs during her four-year career. Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) and Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) hold top ten spots in RBI and homeruns respectively in the UW-W record book with Krisch breaking the record for homeruns in a season with 14 this season.

Tufts University advances to play Salisbury University in a best-of-three series beginning Monday.
