Shelby Mahr (Boyd/Stanley-Boyd) set a school record in the shot put Sunday to aid the Warhawks to a second place finish out of nine teams at the Rex Foster Open in Whitewater. The season opening meet was won by UW-Oshkosh with 151.5 points followed by UW-W (145.5), UW-Stevens Point (144), Wisconsin (118), Northern Michigan (93), Michigan Tech (48), Cardinal Stritch (11), Lawrence (10), and North Park (6).

Mahr's distance of 14.22m (46' 8.00") bested the previous school record of 13.94m (45' 9.00") set by Tabitha Fendrick in 2012. The distance was good enough for second place and eight team points. Mahr also took second in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.35m (161' 11.00"). Teammates
Bethany Neuberger (Denmark/Denmark) and
Amy Miskowicz (Woodstock, IL/Marion Central Catholic) took third and fifth respectively in the same event. Neuberger's toss measured 49.22m (161' 6.00") and Miskowicz came in at 46.37m (152' 1.00").
UW-W tallied three first place finishes in the meet.
Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) turned in a time of 24.70 in the 200 meter dash for first place,
Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) ran the 1,500 meters in 4:45.73 for another UW-W win, and
Lacy Beck (Hebron, IL/Alden-Hebron) tossed the javelin 29.86m (97' 10.00") for UW-W's other first place finish.
The Warhawks totaled five second place finishes, six third place finishes, and four other top eight finishes.
Cheyenne Stewart of Northern Michigan set a facility record in the triple jump with a distance of 12.10m (39' 8.50"). The previous record holder was Julia Baranek of UW-Eau Claire who jumped 12.07m (39' 7.25") in 2012.
UW-W will travel to Platteville on Saturday, April 12 for the UW-Platteville Invitational.
