Warhawks Split in Clermont

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The UW-Whitewater softball team split a doubleheader in Clermont Saturday morning to move to 3-1 this season. The Warhawks came back from a nine run deficit to defeat Buffalo State 12-10 in game one. UW-W fell to Amherst 3-2 after leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap.

The Bengals posted nine runs on eights hits in the top of the second inning to take a 9-0 lead over UW-W. The Warhawks flew back into the game with 12 runs in the next three innings. 

In the bottom of the second, Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) singled to bring in two runs and Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) homered to plate two more to cut the gap to 9-4. In the bottom of the third, Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) jacked her first four-bagger of the season to score three and pull the Warhawks to within two, 9-7. 

Buffalo State added a tally in the top of the fourth but all of the momentum was with Whitewater. The Warhawks scored five runs on four hits with Jo Jablonski (Palatine, IL/Palatine) plating one run on a single to left field, another came in on an error, two crossed home off of an Amy Ricci (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) single to left and Krisch capped the game with two-out RBI single to center to give Whitewater the lead, 12-10. The Warhawk defense held on for the 12-10 win.

Eichenold led UW-W at the plate with a 3-3 performance adding two runs scored and two runs batted in. Krisch was 2-2 with two runs scored and four RBI in the game and Jablonski notched two hits, scoring twice and bringing in one run.

Stephanie Waller (Oak Lawn, IL/Richards) picked up her first collegiate win on the mound for UW-W striking out eight in the complete game win.

Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) and the UW-W defense had Amherst blanked until the bottom of the seventh. Whitewater had a 2-0 lead after plating one run in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the seventh. AC scored three on three hits in the bottom of the seventh to mount the comeback victory. 

Amherst's Cook doubled to open the inning followed by a single and error that scored one run and put a runner on second. A walk and sacrifice bunt had runners on second and third with one out. A walk-off single plated both runs to end the game.

Ricci led Whitewater at the plate with a 2-4 performance adding an RBI. Houda picked up her first loss of the season on the mound to move to 1-1 in 2014. 

The Warhawks continue play in the National Training Center Spring Games with a doubleheader against SUNY Potsdam and Middlebury at 9:00 and 1:00 Sunday.
