Warhawk Women Third in WIAC Championships

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Warhawk women's track and field team finished third in the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Kachel Fieldhouse Saturday. UW-W finished with 92 points. Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) and Shelby Mahr (Boyd/Stanley-Boyd) highlighted the second day of the championships with individual titles for Whitewater.

Sondgeroth was clocked in 24.70 in the 200 meter dash, a WIAC meet record, facility record, school record and the best time in Division III this season. She added second place points to the team total in the 60 meter dash with another program record time, 7.73, the eighth fastest by a DIII athlete in 2014. Mahr won the weight throw with a toss of 59-0.75 to contribute 10 points to the Whitewater total. Teammate Amy Miskowicz (Woodstock, IL/Marion Central Catholic) finished seventh in the event with a distance of 51-6.25. 

In the 800 meter run, Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) crossed the line in 2:15.88 for third. Three Warhawks scored team points in the triple jump lead by Tyler Henderson (Madison/Verona) with a leap of 37-5 for fifth. Aisha Coleman (Janesville/Craig) and Kaylee Raucci (South Elgin, IL/St. Charles North) were seventh and eighth in the event with jumps of 36-0.25 and 35-10.50 respectively. 

In the relays, the team of Candice Wayne (West Bend/West), Brooke Linse (Jefferson/Jefferson), Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North) and Jennifer Rathsack (Plymouth/Plymouth) combined for a time of 4:04.15, sixth best in the 4x400 competition. Wayne, Dreikosen and Rathsack were joined by Sara Knapp (Kenosha/Tremper) in the 4x200 for a seventh place finish in a time of 1:47.99.

The perennial powers in women's track and field, UW-La Crosse and UW-Oshkosh went 1-2 in the meet. The Eagles posted 207 team points followed by the Titans with 131. UW-Whitewater was third with 92. The rest of the team leaderboard was: UW-Stevens Point 79, UW-Stout 60, UW-Eau Claire 56.50, UW-Platteville 45.50, UW-River Falls 27 and UW-Superior 1.

The 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan, are scheduled for March 14-15 in Lincoln, Neb. More information regarding the DIII Championships will be posted when available.
