LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Whitewater men's swimming and diving team suffered its first loss of the season at UW-La Crosse Saturday. UW-W, 5-1 in dual meets this season, scored a season-low 107 points on the day and the Eagles scored 133 to improve to 3-2.
Results
Josh Kanute (Geneva, IL/Marmion Academy) won the 1,000 free with a team best 10:08.43, with
Jake Shackelford (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa East) (10:08.75) and
Andrew Staszak (Franklin/Greendale) (10:24.29) following in second and third, all season bests.
Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) captured a second in the 200 freestyle with a 1:47.26 and
Ben Wynn (Glendale/Nicolet) was runner-up in the 50 free with a 22.76.
Paul Hill (Jefferson/Fort Atkinson) and
James Rodney (Barrington, IL/Barrington) tied for third with a 22.77.
John Devroy (Kenosha/Bradford) was second in both the 200 IM (2:00.47) and the 100 fly (52.80).
Ryan Stuart (Frankfort, IL/Lincolnway East) was second in the 100 freestyle with a 49.26 while
Alex Gidlow (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley) (49.52) and Hill (50.10) finished third and fourth.
The Warhawks swept the top spots in the 500 with Shackelford taking top honors with a 4:57.87, Staszak was runner-up with a 5:04.55 and
Sam Bowman (Onalaska/Onalaska) finished third with a 5:05.03, all season bests.
The 200 free relay team of
Ryan Stuart (Frankfort, IL/Lincolnway East), Rodney,
Josh Kanute (Geneva, IL/Marmion Academy) and Wynn finished second with a time of 1:29.41.
Glen Brinkman (Kenosha/Bradford) finished third off the three meter board with a score of 295.15, an NCAA cut. Brinkman also took second off the one meter board with a score of 253.50.
UW-Whitewater will have the next week off before it competes in the WIAC Championships that will take place Thursday, February 20 through Saturday, February 22. The meet will be hosted by UW-Eau Claire at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis.
