Women Finish Third in the Warhawk Classic

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Whitewater women's track and field team finished third at the Warhawks Open that was held in the Williams Center Fieldhouse Saturday. North Central (Ill.) came away with first in the seven team field.

Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) was the top finisher in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.15 while Amy Kahl (Huntley, IL/Huntley) placed second in the 3,000 meter run with a 10:54.08 and Mary Kate Bernier (Racine/Case) finished sixth in the 5,000 (20:00.37).

Megan Linse (Jefferson/Jefferson) was the runner-up in the in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.17, with teammate Nicole McCue (Edgerton/Edgerton) sixth in 9.83. Lexie Sondgeroth (Rochelle, IL/Township) placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.96, 0.03 behind the winner. UW-W had three in the top six in the 400 meter dash with Candice Wayne (West Bend/West) placing fourth with a 1:01.43, Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North) with a fifth place finish (1:01.45) and Jennifer Rathsack (Plymouth/Plymouth) finishing sixth with a 1:01.50.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North), Wayne, Rathsack and Sondgeroth won with a time of 4:01.15 while the "B" relay of Ariel Altergott (Genoa City/Badger), Sara Knapp (Kenosha/Tremper), Nicole Maggiori (Menomonee Falls/Sussex Hamilton) and Elizabeth Klicker (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) captured two points with a seventh place finish in 4:24.31.

Sondgeroth won the long jump with a jump of 5.7 meters (18'8.5") while Linse placed third with a jump of 5.29 meters (17'4.25") and Meredith Heller (Hales Corners/Whitnall) finished fifth (5.06 meters; 16'7.25"). Kaylee Raucci (South Elgin, IL/St. Charles North) had a triple jump of 10.62 meters (34' 10.25"), good for fourth, and Wayne placed seventh with a leap of 10.37 meters (34' 0.25").

Shelby Mahr (Boyd/Stanley-Boyd) finished second in the shot put with a distance of 13.45 meters (44' 1.5") and Amy Miskowicz (Woodstock, IL/Marion Central Catholic) threw the shot 12.67 meters (41' 7.0"), good for sixth. Mahr also finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 16.02 meters (52' 6.75"). Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) converted on her first height of 3.40 meters (11' 1.75") to put her in fifth in the pole vault.

The Warhawks will travel to Stevens Point, Wis. for the Pointer Invitational on February 7.
