The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's swimming and diving team fell to UW-Stevens Point, ranked 26th by CollegeSwimming, 182-117 Saturday afternoon in Williams Center pool.
The Warhawks, ranked 29th, were led by
Keefer Kuhl (Kenosha/Kenosha Bradford) and
Riley Maher (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) the winner and runner-up off both the one and three-meter boards. Kuhl totaled 255.85 to win the one-meter competition followed by Maher in second with a score of 237.35. Kuhl and Maher went 1-2 off the three-meter board with scores of 224.40 and 217.30 respectively.
In the pool,
Dan Bielski (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) won the 50 yard backstroke in 25.15 followed by teammate
Joe Devroy (Kenosha/Kenosha Bradford) in second with a time of 25.44. Devroy was the first to touch in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 53.63. Samuel Piette was the next Warhawk to finish coming into the wall fourth with a time of 56.80.
Joshua Kanute was the first swimmer to touch the wall in the 500 freestyle recording a time of 4:49.93 and added a second place time of 1:45.58 in the 200 yard freestyle.
Aidan Biedrzycki (Milwaukee/Milwaukee King) and
Steven Missak (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) finished 4-5 in the 200 with times of 1:49.05 and 1:50.26 respectively. Kanute was also second in the 100 yard butterfly with a season best time of 53.83.
James Rodney (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) was fourth in a time of 55.48.
Jake Shackelford (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa East) recorded a season best time of 10:20.19 in the 1000 freestyle to finish fourth followed by
Sam Bowman (Onalaska/Onalaska) in fifth with a time of 10:27.54.
Spencer Twining (Janesville/Janesville Parker) was the runner-up in the 50 yard breaststroke race with a time of 28.04.
Kyle Amundson (Janesville/Janesville Parker) was fifth in the event with a time of 28.61. Twining was the second to finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.14. Amundson took fourth with a time of 1:02.73.
The Warhawks went 3-4-5 in the 50 yard freestyle led by
Alex Gidlow (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley)'s 22.31.
Paul Hill (Jefferson/Fort Atkinson) was fourth in a time of 22.40 and
Brad Wilson (Brookfield/Milwaukee Lutheran) finished fifth in 22.76. Gidlow added a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle touching the wall in 49.23 followed by Hill in third with a time of 29.34.
Bielski was the top Warhawk finisher in the 50 yard butterfly recording a time of 24.51 for third. In the 100 yard individual medley, Devroy was third registering a time of 55.47.
UW-Whitewater's 200 yard medley foursome of Bielski, Twining, Kanute and Gidlow finished second in a time of 1:38.00.
Eric Geier (Madison/Madison West) teammed with Amundson, Anthony Heilberger and
Ryan Stuart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincolnway East) for fourth with a time of 1:39.81. The two Warhawk squads in the 200 yard freestyle relay finished third and fourth. The group of Missak, Hill, Devroy and Stuart touched the wall first in 1:29.89 followed by Piette, Biedrzycki,
Nicholas Wellman (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Rodney with a time of 1:32.45.
The Warhawks will head to Coronado Island in California for their annual spring trip beginning December 28.
