Box Score 2 The nineteenth ranked UW-Whitewater softball team wrapped up play in the 2013 National Training Center Spring Games with two wins to return to Wisconsin unbeaten, 12-0. UW-W topped Union College 9-3 in the first game Thursday and followed with a 6-3 triumph over Whitworth University. The Warhawks averaged 7.5 runs per game over the course of the trip.
Junior first baseman
Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) came up big for the Warhawks Thursday going 5x6 from the plate with seven RBIs and three runs. Against Union, Krisch's one out single started a rally that led to four UW-W runs in the top of the third. Later in the game she notched a triple to left center that scored three more to give Whitewater an 8-3 cushion. In the nightcap, Krisch answered a two-run Whitworth homer in the top of the first with her own shot over the center field fence in Whitewater's half of the inning that also scored
Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity).
The Warhawks posted four runs in the third against Union, added one in the sixth and tallied four more in the seventh. Krisch was 2x2 in batter's box with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew) posted three hits in the game in four at bats with two runs batted in and a run scored.
In game two, Whitworth struck first with a two-run homerun to center. Krisch answered, scoring two to even the score after one inning. UW-W strung hits together in the fourth to add three more to their total giving them a 6-2 lead. Whitworth would plate one runner but the Whitewater defense held to maintain an unblemished record this season.
The pitching tandem of senior Katie Boyle (Greendale/Thomas More) and sophomore Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) each picked up their sixth win of the season for UW-W. In game one, Boyle went 5.1 innings on the mound allowing seven hits and striking out one. Freshman Kayla Bastar (Weyauwega/Weyauwega-Freemont) and Houda teamed up for a combined relief effort in the game to seal the win. Houda went the distance in game two allowing nine hits while striking out five.
The Warhawks' next scheduled doubleheader is set for Tuesday, April 2 in Waukesha against Carroll University. UW-W's first home games are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7 against St. Norbert College and the University of Chicago respectively. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
